I want to be like Job…

in Faith

…well, I don’t want everything taken away from me and worms crawling on me…but I want his patience!

I’m only two chapters in and wow!

I’m afraid to ask what more they can put this man through…in just two chapters he’s lost everything and now has sores and worms on him and his wife wants him to “curse God and die”…

If you know me, you know that I am not patient on the whole. I want things and I want them now. Why wouldn’t I? I grew up in the world of email, microwaves and my cable company has a service called “On Demand”. That’s how we’re speaking to people now — that’s how we play on their emotions — “I can give this to you now…”

I guess this makes me spoiled…

Come to think of it, I even use it in my own sales copy… “You can download this book immediately, even if it’s 2am” — but that’s what people want.

I know that I struggle with this…but I think it’s more than just patience…it’s trust too.

Job lost everything…my mouth was gaping open when they I read about the various messengers coming to tell him that he’d lost his livestock, his children, etc…why wouldn’t you want to crawl in a hole and die…or blame God? Isn’t that the easiest thing to do?

Not Job — he shaved his head (and briefly I thought — maybe this is what Brittany Spears was thinking of…but that quickly passed…) and said

“…Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 1:21

WOW!

So if Job can withstand this and still have patience and faith, I’m pretty sure that I should be able to just have a little patience and faith for my petty little problems, right?

At least it gives me hope… :)

Until next time…

My dearest Heather :)

You have something that Job did not have — the Holy Spirit as a helper.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. — Galatians 5:22-23

See, we can’t do these things by ourselves and God knows it. That’s why when Jesus left this earth to go back to Heaven, He sent down the Holy Spirit to help us. So, you can’t do it yourself (have patience etc.) — it will come from the Holy Spirit inside you.

Sometimes it’s hard not to get so wrapped up in “life” that we forget where our focus should be. Thanks for this reminder Heather (and Lisa). I needed that!
