Over the past few weeks, my “quiet time” occurs between 8am and 9am and it involves reading the Bible, a devotion of some sort and journaling.

I do GREAT with having that quiet time unless I have a morning appointment or if the kids are home from school.

Yesterday morning was my library duty at the school and then I had phone calls scheduled all morning. At noon, Lisa asked me if I had my quiet time and I said, “no, I need to finish this one thing up and then I’m going to.”

Well that one thing turned into two more things and 2 hours later she asked me again if I had had my quiet time.

Again, I replied that I hadn’t and that I now only had 2 and a half hours left in my day and that there was no way that I could get done what I needed to do and have my quiet time. I just couldn’t picture calling up my boss and telling him that I didn’t hit my deadline because I needed to read my Bible. (Especially because if I were in an office, I wouldn’t just take 45 minutes in the middle of the day to read the Bible — I would do it before or after working hours….)

She said, “Heather, it only takes 5 minutes”

“What?”

“Read a Bible verse and pray” she said…

Silly me… I had already done that. See, I keep a devotional book on my desk. I read it as soon as I sit down at my desk.

But then I started thinking about all the other devotional books that I had and how overwhelmed I got with all of them and thinking how could I possibly get all of these read…

So, I took one in the potty. (Here would be a great time to tell you about Potty Prayers… it’s a fantabulous site :) )

There’s also one beside my bed now as well…

That means that maybe I won’t have my journaling time every day, but I will have my quiet time… several times a day… :)

I’ll just have to take it where I can get it… :)

Until next time…

Heather

I completely understand about ‘taking it where you can get it’. I try really hard every day to make time first thing in the morning for my quiet time and journaling but sometimes I find that I get sidetracked and busy so I have devotionals here and there throughout the house also – although I have to say I don’t have one in the potty so I guess I should put one there too….lol :-)

Oh Heather, I love your stories girl :) You make me smile!

Just imagine how hectic your day could’ve been had you not taken a few minutes out to at least think about God. We get in so much trouble when we start putting rules on ourselves (ie. “gotta read the Bible, journal for an hour, read 3 devotionals, and to that Bible study”). Simplify! Simplify! Simplify! Not saying all that stuff is bad – it’s not. But don’t put those expectations on yourself. God just wants you to love Him, remember Him, and come to Him all the time — no matter where you are :D
