Randomness….

in Thoughts...,Time wasting...

Karen from Surviving Motherhood posted a few random questions on her blog, and because I’m having some issues jump starting this morning, I thought I would play along.

1. How is mothering, in reality, different from what you expected it to be?

Well, first and foremost, mothering was not a “do it yourself” kinda job… I expected there to be a partner here and that we do it side by side. But, life happens and that’s not always the case, so I’ve been flying solo for the most part. There is part of me that LOVES that… but there are times when it’s tough being both mom and dad and with Matthew growing up, there are certain things, that I, as a female, just don’t get.

However, I wouldn’t trade any of this for the world, even if I am insanely jealous of the nuclear families. :)

2. What is something you, as a kid, vowed you would never say to your own kids? Have you kept the vow?

Guilty! Here are a few of the things that I have caught myself saying…

  • Because I said so…
  • Because I’m the mom…
  • It’s not you that I don’t trust, it’s the rest of the world…

I’m sure there are others. I do know that at least once a week I say something and immediately I think, “Oh my gosh, that was my mother speaking.” That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but as a teenager I was determined to be a better mother than my mother….

I have a LONG way to go…. ::sigh::

3. If someone stopped in to your house for a surprise visit, would you be glad for the company, or self-conscious by the condition of your home? Why?

Depends on who it is…

I have a select few that have seen my house at its worst… I don’t care if they see that my house is “lived in” or that it’s a train wreck…

However, if my pastor were to stop by, or someone from the kids’ school, I would be MORTIFIED if my house wasn’t clean.

The reality of it is, I’m never going to have a house that looks like it just came from a magazine, and that’s okay, but it doesn’t stop me from secretly wishing that my house was a little more…. oh, how do I say this? um, not so white trash… :)

4. Describe your ideal date with your husband.

Well, it would include a husband… lol…

Let’s see… back in the day, when there was someone here and we would go on dates I loved heading up to the lake for dinner and a game of putt putt followed by loser buys ice cream… and we’d watch the band while we consumed said ice cream… and then heading home… (let me point out that the putt putt course goes out over the water… like docks… and because the band is outside you can hear the live music while you play… and it’s just one of my most favorite places…)

The drive to and from was worth it because it’s though God’s country… we really do live in a beautiful part of the country… it’s about a 45 minute drive or so…

I’m not one of those gals that likes to be wined and dined… fancy restaurants make me uncomfortable…primarily because there are too many utensils and while I’m sure no one cares if I consume my dinner with my salad fork, I do. I’m just a simple gal… putt putt, go cart racing, bowling, etc… those are my kinds of fun.

5. If you were sitting face to face with God and could ask Him any question, what would it be?

Toughie…

I think I would ask him what he wants me to do with my life. I ask him all the time and I ask him to be obvious, but I think I would like to hear it out of his mouth, so there is no question of what I’m supposed to do.

I would also ask him why the evil happens in the world. It doesn’t matter how many times I hear an answer to “why did this happen?” I still can’t seem to “Get it”…

So, there you have it…

In a few days, I’m supposed to post some random questions for you to answer on your site…

So, stay tuned for that!

Until next time…

Heather

Thanks for playing along! I loved learning about you from these questions, and I am amazed at how similar you and I are.
1. How many times have I said, “I just don’t understand boys!!!”?
2. I’ve thought the same thing about my mother’s voice taking over my own.
3. Depends who it is…When our small group came over once I announced, “I didn’t clean up around here tonight. You guys are our friends!”
This was fun. Thanks for sharing.

Can relate on most of those things. Nice to know I’m not alone and YOU’re not alone!!

#3 gives me an ulcer just thinking about it. I don’t like drop by’s. They freak me out!!! I would probably ignore the doorbell. I know, lame.

I loved your answers, especially the one about the ideal date with a husband and you answer at the beginning about it ‘including a husband’…LOL, I hear ya sister!!!! And the drop bys – I agree totally!

I love things like this so I’m definitely watching for your questions :-)

You’ll think this is weird, but I always vowed I’d never scrape off the cookie dough from the mixer beaters before letting the kids lick it. My mom always scraped all the dough off and I remember thinking “I’ll always let my kids have the cookie dough if they want it” but no, I too scrape the beaters. I hadn’t thought of that in years.

good answers indeed. I would ask God the same thing about the evil…I think something happens everyday that makes me say “I just don’t understand??” I will never get it either.
