Ya gotta do what ya gotta do…

Last night, I had the pleasure of getting all dolled up and head to a wedding…

what this actually means is that I pulled out my standard dress that I’ve worn to every spring/summer wedding for the past 5 or so years and heels..

yes, heels…

and I danced…and my feet hurt…

and it’s not because I’m out of shape (although I kinda am)…it’s because i’m not used to wearing heels. In my line of work, bare feet and flip flops are the standard of the dress code (have I mentioned how much I LOVE working from home?)

But what I realized is how much I enjoy dressing up. Don’t get me wrong, I cringe at the thought of having to get dressed up for work every day, but it was a nice change of pace. And I felt good about myself getting out of my jeans and flip flop regimen.

DSCN0069.JPG This morning, Becki and I had a pamper me session and we headed to the nail salon for manicure, pedicures, and an eye brow wax (ow!) and then to lunch and to the mall because I’m in need of a new pair of jeans. (My favorite pair of jeans are on their last leg and I’m funny about my jeans…so I worry (although I know I shouldn’t) that they are going to give and I’m going be jeans-less.)

Let me also mention that I will be traveling for much of the month of June for business and I will have to get dressed up. I’ve been working from home for almost 2 years and so I have very little by way of “work” clothes.

DSCN0084.JPG Our first stop at the mall was the shoe store because a gal can never have too many shoes. I’m not fancy in my shoes and Payless is the place for me. I splurged. I got three new pairs of shoes

(ok, so the last ones aren’t really the one’s i got, but I couldn’t find the ones that I really go, so I had to improvise….i did try these on, but they didn’t fit right…)

I told Becki that I don’t think I would’ve wanted all of these shoes had my toe not looked fantabulous from the morning pedicure….

All 3 pairs came to $40 and as we all know, I’ve been trying very hard to be a good steward of my money. But, the fact remains that I am human and I love shoes… and because, you know, I need them for my business trip and to wear to church…

After leaving the shoes store, I went in search of jeans. It didn’t happen, but what did happen was that I found 2 pairs of dress pants, that look fantabulous and that were on sale. So I snatched them up. I now feel a little better at looking the part of a corporate person when I have to make some on site visits.

I was a little perturbed at myself for spending the $100 today on shoes, my nails, and the pants, however, I can’t tell you the last time that I bought myself clothes or shoes (unless you count the 3 pairs of flip flops I bought at Wally World for $2 each) so I think that I deserve it. After all, am I not supposed to take care of myself as well?

I think that I’m going to hit the G Boutique (Goodwill) this week in search of a few tops and some jeans and that should tie me over.

But for now, I’m going to go and put on all my shoes again and then decide which ones should be worn to church tomorrow… :) They won’t know what to think when I roll up in something other than flip flops!

Until next time…

Heather

PS. After reading Dale’s most recent post at What Ever You Want Honey, I’ve decided that it will be a prerequisite of any potential suitor to read his blog prior to dating me… :) Becki’s one lucky gal!

I love it when I get a good bargain! Sounds like you got a bunch of them!
And I love those pamper days. My best friend and I have a great time doing stuff like that. Well, except the eyebrow thing. No way.

Can I just tell you that I’m incredibly jealous that you got to go out shopping? :)

I did wear some new super cute white wedge heels to church this morning and was in so much pain I could barely walk. But I looked good, dangit.

Bargain hunting – love it! And yes, sometimes you do have to take care of yourself, so you can take better care of others.
