MomsBlogging.com is starting a new carnival… and I’ve been wanting to participate in something like this for awhile and just haven’t gotten around to it…
I know… I’m such a slacker…
But when I saw the topic — “your grandmother”… I KNEW I had to participate…
Because my grandma is the coolest… and I’m not just saying that… I have proof to back it up!
I love to hear stories about how grandmothers nurture and fuss over their grandchildren… maybe because it’s so foreign to me. I don’t have memories of the sweet, nuturing side of my grandma (who, since my children were born is now affectionately called Mamaw)
My stories? Will have you ROLLING… and probably give you some idea about why I am the way I am….
Or confirm your thoughts that I’m a certifiable nut job…
either way… you’ll still love me…
But Mamaw… she just rocks…
First, let me state that she’s 87… soon to be 88.
She still golfs….
Up until 4 years ago, she drove a Porche…
she currently drives a cherry red Monte Carlo…
she’s not afraid to tell you what she thinks…
and just recently, when I insulted my father (jokingly of course) she tried to shove a waffle down my throat to keep me quiet….
She’s just the coolest grandma on the face of the planet! Seriously!
I’ll tell you more…
She once was out playing hockey with all the grandchildren…and my cousin hit a slap shot that hit my grandma in the shin… so they took her to the emergency room…
She thought she was all finished up and ready to go home when another doctor entered the room… she asked what they had to do now and he replied “nothing… i just wanted to meet the grandmother who was here with a hockey injury”
And once, we went to Baltimore… I wanted a sweatshirt in the worst way. One shop keeper told her that the sweatshirts were $17 so we headed to the next store. When she asked the salesman how much they were and he told her $21 she replied “Oh cripe, you’re worse than the other guy.” And we still quote her to this day….
My other favorite quote? “I’ve been thrown out of better places than this…”
My grandma’s just a neat lady… she was in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) in WWII… she’s got boatloads of brothers and sisters, she taught herself how to drive and one day when my grandpa came home from work, she said “take me to get my license…” he had no idea that she would take the car down in the field to practice.
She’s the best cook in the whole wide world and she makes waffles that no one can top… oh that and shrimp and I’m always nice to her so she’ll make me shrimp.
And I’m thrilled that my children have come to know and love Mamaw (which they call her because she’s my grandma, not theirs!)
Now that she lives in an apartment next to Mom and Dad, the kids have gotten to know her and love her and have the best memories of her. Just like I do… we tease her about being older than dirt and she just laughs… she’s got the best laugh…
I could go on and on about my grandma and how cool she is… and much she rocks…. but we’d be here all day… I just hit the highlights…
But here’s the visual proof…
Yes… she really is almost 88… and still the most hip grandma around…
I’d love to hear about your Grandma when you take a trip down memory lane…
Until next time…
Heather

I so want to be her at 88. However I would be driving convertible Ford Thunderbird preferrably in yellow.
Oh how I wish my Great Gramps was still alive, he would’ve loved your Grandma and they would have been like “two peas in a pod!” LOL
Aww she sounds so wonderful! The picture just did me in! What a hoot
Wow Heather.. she does not look 88 at all. She does look great. My grandma turned 94 yesterday.. I was sad not to be there
Your grandma is cooler than cool! hehe
