ok, so it’s not what any of you are probably thinking…
or perhaps you’re sitting there going… wait a minute… she’s single!
I am…
but I still celebrated a 10 year anniversary last night… with my best friend, Sondra…
a month or so ago, she called me up and said… “do you realize that we’ve been friends for 10 years?”… i stopped to think about it… did some quick math and finally agreed with her…
so she states.. “we’re going to celebrate…”
we got our calendars out and last night was the only night in about a 3 week time span that we could both do it… AND her oldest could watch my kids…
we’re busy people, ya know…
so, I decked myself out, dropped Matthew off at football and headed to her house… I was greeted with a mango margarita… yum…
I had chosen a very nice white blouse, black pants and my new heels that I picked up in Missouri… I thought about this because when we do get to go out she always dresses to the nines and I’m just not like that… but I wanted to look nice…
after being there 10 minutes she comes out and throws a shirt in my lap and says… “add some color to your wardrobe, you’ll look like you work at the restaurant…”
it’s one of the reasons I love her… she tells it like it is… and not afraid to open her mouth…
so I changed… and eventually we left and headed to Carlos’… it’s a fancy place up on the hill… she’d never been there…I’d been there with a multitude of men throughout the last few years…
multitude? let me change that answer… three… it’s not a place I typically go… it’s kinda pricey…
Our original plan was to make a reservation under a fake name, ask for a particular server that we used to work with eons ago… and tell them it was an anniversary…
we really did do all of that… but Steve wasn’t working… however, Shelly… another gal that we used to work with was there and she wanted to wait on us… hard to believe it’s been 6 years since we worked with those folks…
we had the lobster bisque and I had some kind of fish that was like grouper (i don’t really know what grouper is) but it was really good… (I told you… this place is a little on the fancy side for me…
) and when dinner was over, we split a to.die.for. piece of cheesecake…
we reminisced about the last 10 years…
…there have been 8 moves… two for her, six for me…
… there has been 2 big breakups… both mine
… a divorce… mine too…
… new babies… my daughter and her grandson… in fact, she was in the delivery room when Samara popped out and I was there in the delivery room when Baylen arrived (not planned… just kinda happened…)
…there have been countless concerts… mostly Kenny Chesney… and they always involve a road trip… but there was the Montgomery Gentry concert… that was fun!
…two college graduations… hers and mine… (she’s a nurse! in the NICU…)
it’s been a great 10 years… and to even think about how we met…
we both moved here the same week… her from Buffalo, NY and me from Philly…
We both got a job at Orvis… and started the same day… we met in training class… eventually, I moved across the street from her… then Samara was born… she moved across town, and eventually we did too… and then I moved some more times… and then she moved in to her dream house finally…. and when I moved back from Richmond three years ago, I bought a house a mile from her… we’re back together again…
yes, it’s been a great 10 years… and of course, she got me a card… (because she’s like that.. didn’t even dawn on me to do that…) and it talked about becoming old ladies together… (although she’s going to be an old lady before me… hee hee hee)…
but i think we’re both looking forward to seeing what the next 10 years bring…
And you know that we took a picture before we left… actually a few…
the view from the restaurant… we did decide that this is why we both fell in love with Roanoke… you just can’t get any better of a view…
overlooking the main strip through this side of town…
and one of us…
here’s to the next 10 years Sondra…
you’re the best! (even if you do make me where a shirt that my boobs stick out of and makes me look pregnant…
)
Until next time…
Heather

That sounds like a great night out – congrats on 10 years of a wonderful friendship!
Those photos are lovely…
What a great post. Makes me want to celebrate friend anniversaries.
Your post just made me stop and think about my best friend and I – we’ve been best friends since 1990! Holy Toledo that’s a long time and I never really ‘thought’ about it until just now. I never thought of celebrating a friendship but I think it’s high time
What a great friend – I love her honesty. If she travels, let her know someone in Michigan would love a wardrobe critique!
Seriously, you are blessed with a great friend and I’m glad you’ve shared so many good times.
Friendships like that are such a gift. You’ve been through a lot together and it’s awesome that you celebrated that! The Mango Margarita sounds really yummy, too!
What a great post! Sounds like you guys have made some great memories!
Girly friends are the best. There’s nothing like those relationhships!!
AND you both look gorgeous!
