They don’t come that often, ya know…
But guess what?
Last night, Samara finished her first school project for the year…
I know, I know… you’re probably thinking so what?
And really? It’s a big deal because it’s not due until Friday… that’s 2 whole days early…
Again, I bet you’re thinking… so what…
You’re probably one of those moms that jumps on a project as soon as it comes home and it’s always done right away, aren’t you?
That’s okay… I aspire to be like you one day… I’m making progress…
But typically, it’s the night before and we’re scrambling to get things done… and when I wait until the last minute, it typically makes the projects so much more expensive… like the $35 Deciduous Forest that Matthew made in 3rd Grade… or the $20 Pueblo that Samara made last year…
This project? Done two days early and for a whopping $7!
I got smart… I asked her dad to help her this weekend… pretty smart of me, eh? I just knew there was no way that we could make this and paint it and dry it during the week… and he’s totally talented when it comes to that stuff…
so I asked… and he said yes, and he was excited about it… and when she came home on Sunday she had 22 gold coins for her class and one big gold coin like the one John Midas found in the Chocolate Touch. Except they weren’t gold… yet… we made them gold tonight… with spray paint… and boy did she LOVE that!
So we’re done… she’s wrapped each of the gold coins for her class mates in tin foil and they are carefully placed in her bag, ready to be taken to school… TWO DAYS EARLY!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I’m happy… makes me feel competent for once…
What’s your biggest challenge with school projects? Do you love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Until next time…
Heather

Good for you, Heather! Feeling competent is so fun, isn’t it??? (I mean, I felt that way once before. LOL)
My struggle with the school projects is keeping them the kids’ project, and not MINE. I want them to take responsibility for getting it done, but I don’t want them to not get it done or to do it poorly. Finding the balance is the hard part for me.
We haven’t had too many projects to deal with yet, but oh yes, we’ve always been right at the last minute so far. Until today. Abby decided this morning that she just HAD to take her ‘All About Me’ page to school today (it’s not due until the 26th) so she did the whole thing after breakfast and took it in. It’s such a great feeling to have that done and off my list!
Way to go, Samara!
I hate most school projects, because the kids don’t even TELL me about them until they are due. Little buggers, lol.
