Ok, so when it comes to men, I typically go for the older, more experienced men. My last boyfriend was 12 years my senior and had a child closer in age to me than he was…
additionally, he was closer in age to my father than he was to me.
I think in large part I’m not your typical 30 year old. Most people with kids my kids’ ages are older… in their late 30s or early 40s. All of my friends are older… it’s just the way it’s always been.
At one time, some friends recommended that I find a younger man so that I could train him… and I did. He was two years younger than me and I guess my training skills were not yet defined. I was 24 at the time. Or maybe it was the fact that I was recently divorced, living at home with my parents and attending school full time while working full time… with a 3 and 1 year old as well….
So, I’ve typically stuck with older men. I don’t plan it that way… it just kinda happens that way.
But…
I mentioned before about my crush on American Idol runner up, Blake Lewis…that wasn’t so bad.. he was 26.. just 4 years younger than me.
However, due to the fact that I have a boy crazy 8 year old in the house and my work with the church youth group means that I stay on top of the recent heart throbs… it also means that I’ve seen High School Musical One and Two a mere 5 gazillion times… and it also means that I have the opportunity to admire the beauty of one Zac Efron….
I had an out loud thought today, while watching the original with Samara for the third time this weekend… I thought it was just in my head, however it was out loud when I said, “Man, he is just hot.” That’s when my daughter said, “I know… isn’t he?” Her eyes glazed over as she let out a huge sigh.
I do try very hard not to express admiration of the opposite sex in front of my children. I don’t want to gross them out after all… it’s tough when your antiquated, one foot in the grave, another on a banana peel mother mentions that she thinks someone is attractive…
actually, i don’t think it’s that as much as it is, when I mention the attractiveness of a man (or boy) my daughter wants to have “girl talk” about boys and I just don’t know how to handle that…. my baby talking about boys…. i shudder at the thought.
So after we both acknowledged that Zac is a hottie, I said… “oh, i shouldn’t be talking like that about someone who is so young” and she says… “Mom, he’s 29… i saw it on the internet… and Gabriella and him are dating, but I think they broke up because she took naked pictures of her to give to him… I saw that on the internet too.”
SCREECH!!!!
You saw WHAT on the internet and when? I couldn’t lay into her. I know she didn’t see that in our home on the internet because her computer is right next to mine and I’m always with her when she’s online… which isn’t often. She’s not nearly the computer geek user that my son is. Which means that some other 8 year old saw it on the internet and told her about it.
But I knew that he couldn’t be 29… and so I googled… “how old is zac efron” and you know how old he is? TWENTY!
I’m drooling over a twenty year old.
Which means one of two things… I REALLY need to find a man or I REALLY need to watch movies that are made for my age group.
Unfortunately, I don’t think either are on the horizon.
I am thankful for today. For the time that I had in worship, for my church family, and for the time that I have with my children. I’m glad that I still have youthful side so that I can relate to the young people of our church and hopefully make a difference in their lives.

hey you never have to stop looking at the menu, no matter what age you are.
Hi, I was browsing blogs and found yours, I like the way you write.
And it’s so easy to admire a good looking man, no matter what their age.
Do you mind if I link you?
I was watching HSM2 with Anna Marie this weekend, and I actually thought, “There is no way that kid is that good looking. It’s just not natural!”
And I’m apparently one year older than you – I’m 31 – so that makes me more of a cradle robber!
Oh my goodness… should I worry about you helping with the youth. You know there was that story about the teacher… lol
LOL! I think Zac is a little hottie too
