Overheard at a recent youth outing…

in 30 Days of Thanks

I wonder if I can suck brains out with this turkey baster…

as he ran down the aisle to grab yet another turkey baster…

Put the thong back

after she held the thong up and said “is this a wise purchase?”

A little background… (and I could’ve sworn that I already posted this, however, I went back and didn’t see where I had…)

Once a month, we take the youth on a Destination Unknown.  This month, we took them to the Dollar Store, gave them two bucks and these simple instructions:

  1. You must spend your money wisely
  2. You must spend all your money

It was interesting to see what they purchased and how they defined “wisely”.

For some, wisely meant buying something for someone else.  For others, wisely meant to purchase food for themselves because they were hungry.  And for most?  Well, let’s just say Webster isn’t coming to them anytime soon for a new definition from them.

But it was fun, at least for us.

If you ask the cashier, she might have a different story.

Until next time…

Heather

30 daysI am thankful for the ability to spend time with the teens at my church even though I’m convinced each and every single one of them has ADHD.  I’m thankful that I can help impact their lives and be their friends.  But I am thankful that they love me no matter how much I tell them to settle down.

What a neat idea! I love to hear what else they decided to buy.

I’ve just got to know if you were the one that said “put the thong back.” :D

Oh my goodness, this post cracked me up! :)

What a neat idea to set them loose in a dollar store!

Yes, I was the one to tell her to put the thong back. :)

One kid bought candy because his thought process was that anything he bought would break because it wasn’t high quality so why bother… there were others that bought nail kits and exchanged them. The youth leader and I bought candy and split it. We decided it was wise to have a little chocolate therapy after hauling 12 teens to the dollar store!

What a great idea! Sounds like an interesting outing to say the least. And I’m with you & the youth leader – I’d need some chocolate therapy too :-)
