Don’t go grocery shopping when you’re hungry…

… and for that matter, when you’re hungry for the Lord, don’t set for in the Christian Bookstore.

It’s the same theory.

I went in there for three things.  THREE.

I got the Life Application Study Bible for my birthday.  I’d been wanting one for some time, but they are a bit pricey.  Imagine my thrill when Family Christian put their Bibles 50% off this week…imagine my bigger thrill when my friends all pitched in and bought me one for my birthday.

I absolutely love it!  Seriously… the smell, the feel, the words contained within.  They are no different than the Bible I currently possess which also holds special meaning to me because my dear friend Lisa sent it to me when I began my walk.

However, because the Bible was given to me, I didn’t have to use my birthday money to purchase it.  So, I decided that I wanted a cover.  I shipped the kids off with their dad and proceeded to head over.  I was on a mission.

Unfortunately, the cover that I REALLY wanted wouldn’t fit my Bible.  I wanted something young and hip, but not childish.  I didn’t want it to scream, I’m a teenager, but I wanted something that would fit my youthfulness.  I kinda found it.  With my Bible in hand, I tried on almost every single cover they had and finally selected one that was pink and brown and says “Believer” on the front.  It took me 45 minutes.  I was not going to settle.

I then had to get tabs for the Biblically ignorant.  I felt lost in Bible study this morning without them.  My current Bible has the Noah’s Ark tabs… they are bright and colorful and have animals on them.  I love them.  They are sturdy… and colorful… cheery.  But this new Bible?  I didn’t think they would fit the new look.  But I didn’t like the gold and silver ones they had…they looked cheap… and Sam has them in her Bible and I didn’t like them.  I opted for the rainbow ones.  I didn’t think they fit either, but oh well…

And a new highlighter.  I’m anal.  I don’t like the highlighter bleeding.

But I didn’t stop there… oh no!  I looked at dozens of books, and Bibles, Devotionals and the like.  I spent almost two hours in there before I finally completed my purchase.  The Lord was with me because I didn’t spend too much more than I had in birthday cash, but I have a wish list and am bummed that all major gift giving holidays are over 11 months away.

So now I’m off to enjoy my Chinese food… and put new tabs in my Bible… and perhaps I’ll highlight a verse or two.

And then I’ll probably stare at my new Bible a little longer…

I’ll wonder how long the excitement of this book will last… and hope that the answer is forever.

Until next time…

Heather

Any bookstore is dangerous territory for me, too! I hope you enjoy this new Bible and I wonder what great things are in store for you as you study it and grow closer to the Lord. Happy Birthday!

Last year I bought a small Bible to carry around in my purse because I’d lost (or though I’d lost) my other one. I so loved the new one – it had a hunter green cover, which was this neat matter finish, and it had a beautiful cross embossed on it. I really liked the translation too – the Contemporary English version.

Then, in September, I went to reach for it in church one Sunday and it wasn’t there. I’d been to cover a fashion show in Memphis the week before, and I thought it may have fallen out at the hotel. I even called to see if anyone had found it. Which, of course they hadn’t.

Because I found it. Last night. Under the sound system table, where I was sitting next to my husband while he ran PowerPoint for a special meeting we had.

My Bible is back! Whee!

(And just so you know, right after I lost the green one, I found the other purse-sized Bible. In my mother’s van. Which is a miracle in and of itself.)
