Signs of growing up…

Most mother’s mark the milestones of their children growing up with signs such as first smile, first word, first steps… and don’t get me wrong, I’ve recorded each of these as well… (don’t ask me to locate the document though… I can’t seem to do that…)

There are other signs of growing up… like the first time they are invited to a playdate, or the first time they attend a party where you drop them off and come pick them up later… those are signs of independance…

And we’ve had our fair share of those milestones as well…

Matthew is growing up right before my very eyes.  I’m still having trouble fathoming the fact that he’s 11.  It’s hard for me.  I still don’t feel old enough to have an 11 year-old.  I don’t feel old enough to be registering my child for middle school.

But for the longest time, despite his age, and the “signs” I’ve still seen a little boy inside… my little boy.

That was, until this morning, when I experienced the early stages of him becoming a man…

nothing says “you’ve got a man living here” like falling in the toilet first thing in the morning while still half asleep…

or hearing a slight giggle with the words “oops, I forgot to put the seat down, didn’t I?” shortly thereafter…

Until next time…

Boy and Girl Child will be 10 in March and I get a little choked up every time I think about it.
