For She Speaks? I speak…

in Faith

There’s been a little bit of buzz about the She Speaks Conference…and I?

Would like to go…

However, there’s a slight problem…

The cash needed to go? Yeah, I don’t have it.

There’s a reason… for years, I’ve a had a job and a business on the side. It provided my mad money… my fun money… but after returning from Set Apart in December, I started the boll rolling with selling it.

The reason I sold it? To have more time to devote to youth ministry…

Cue the Violin.

There are multiple reasons why I would like to go. I would love to be able to learn how to write better and how to carry the message of Jesus Christ through my little blog. I would love to learn more about public speaking. Here of late, I’ve been speaking out more about my faith to large groups of people, but I’d like to expand upon it.

Yes, I’d like to meet up with those that are going. That’s a given, but in reality? They don’t know me from Adam, so they probably aren’t that concerned on whether or not I attend.

But the biggest reason? I want to know more about leading in ministry. While I know that it’s geared toward women’s ministry, I have a slew of girls that I work with on a daily basis that will one day be women. They are emerging and in a world that’s difficult to navigate through.

I truly feel that I’ve been called to, not help them, but to set an example to them. I didn’t know this stuff when I was a kid growing up. Or maybe it was told to me, but I wasn’t listening. Who knows… but the bottom line is, I don’t want to sit idly by when I could be talking to them, hanging with them, and showing them all that Jesus has to offer.

Making a difference in just one child’s life through youth ministry would be worth it all to me.

So why am I telling you this? Well, Lisa TerKerust is giving away a scholarship to She Speaks and I would love to be the recipient. I’ve already checked and it’s a weekend that the kids will be with their dad, it’s only 3 hours away from here, so transportation isn’t a problem, and I have nothing else lined up that weekend. The only thing stopping me is the funds to actually, you know, get in the doors.

I know that if it’s in His will, I’ll get to go. I know that He will provide a way for me to get there, if I’m supposed to be there.

If not?

I might just go crash Lisa’s for the weekend!

Until next time…

Heather

Yay! I’m so glad you posted and are entering Lysa’s contest :) It would be totally cool if we both could go and be roomies! If not, we could just hang out around here :) You’re in my prayers my friend — wow, what a difference a year can make, huh?

I really hope you get it. I so want to see you there! I am withdrawing my post. Not that I expect I was a major contender. But we have the money. I mean, we don’t. But we can swing it. I really want it to go to someone like you who can only go if you get a scholarship. So I’m rooting for ya, girl!!

I love that your heart for girls who are as you say, trying to navigate through a difficult world, shines through in this post. Blessings upon your ministry and your chance to attend.
