So you think I’ve been silent?

in blogging

On September 3, 2008 almost 80 people unsubscribed to my blog.

That was two weeks ago.

And for two weeks, I’ve tried to think of what I could’ve possibly said that would make you all bail in droves.  Not that I think I’m miss popular or anything, but I like knowing that you enjoy what I have to say.

And if someone unsubs here or there, it doesn’t bother me.  I’m sure I’ve lost 80 different people over the course of 18 months, but in one day, it was really bothering me.

Alot.

I had recently posted about my thoughts on Sarah Palin.  But that was a few days earlier.  The day everyone left?  It was a review.

Both posts that I knew I would lose some people over, but EIGHTY of you?

I’ve worked hard at remembering why I started this blog… for me.  The fact that others enjoy it is an added bonus. It’s helped, but in the back of my mind, I needed to know what I did to make you jump ship.

Two days ago, after my hardened heart post, a reader emailed me and said that I hadn’t posted in two weeks and wanted to know if I was okay. And then today?  Heather mentioned that no new posts were showing up.

I then remembered that I’ve not gotten any new feeds either in quite some time.

When I checked, the last post was September 3rd… when I asked what year it was.  The night 90210 and NKOTB’s latest album was released.

For some, I can see why they might have unsubbed.

So I did a little checking over at Feedburner and have seen over the past 2 years, there have been some problems with Google Reader.  I also see that they are working on something tonight with Google.

Near as I can tell, anyone who uses Google Reader has thought I was silent for two weeks.

Ha.

So, I know many of you lurk, but to help me figure out if this is a google reader problem, can you please delurk today… simply to tell me what RSS service you read my blog in.

Or if you stubled upon this because you’re wondering why I’m silent, could you tell me if you’re using Google Reader?

Hopefully, I’ll get you all back.  But if not, I understand.

Even rebscribing right now isn’t working.

I love you all, I really do.  Your comments make me smile, and knowing that I’ve lost nearly 80 of you, especially when it wasn’t my fault hurts… and I want you back.

So I’m taking it up with Feedburner, but I need to have a little proof before I go in with guns blazing…

And in the meantime, if you’re a Google Reader user, and you still want to read me, the email subscriptions appear to be working… you can find me there.

Until next time…

I use Google, but I have a bar at the top of my Firefox that scrolls when a new post is on those pages and then go to the page to read…is that google reader?? Or is that RSS (or are those the same thing?)…I’m confused!! I do have an RSS box on my toolbar too!

I use Google Reader and your feeds have been showing up just fine and dandy! In fact, I usually see your new posts there first, before I get the e-mail notice. Anyhow, below is a link to a screen shot I took of my Google Reader displaying all of your posts. Hope this helps!

I use Google Reader and haven’t noticed any problems. I’ve gotten all of your recent posts just fine, I think, including this one and the hardened heart one.

I use Google Reader and I’ve seen your posts fine. I had a problem with FeedBurner a couple of weeks ago where it deactivated my e-mail subscriptions and it wasn’t counting the number of subscribers correctly (it helps when only a handful of people subscribe to your blog and you know who they are). I don’t usually comment, I’m more of a lurker.

I had some “weird” subscription number drops from feedburner earlier this week… I thought they were having problems. Mine are looking better last couple days… Your eighty might show up in the numbers again if they fix the problem. Just a thought :)

See ya Friday!

I have both Bloglines and Google reader (I switched over to Bloglines, but Reader shows on my Google home page) as far as I can tell it’s been showing updates on Reader.

I use the old fashion blog roll. I do have google reader, but I just have never been able to really get into it. Not sure why. I know that this is now around the time when blogging reading starts to slowly pick back up. I think for a lot of people it’s just way too hectic at the end of the summer and the beginning of the school year. I agree though with the other commenter and would check the stats again because it could just be an error from Feedburner.
