I’m Dreaming of a DRY Christmas…

White Christmas’s rarely happen in Southwest Virginina.

They just don’t and I’m okay with that, for the most part, although I did mention to someone that the only thing that would make this Christmas more perfect would be a little of the white, powdery stuff.

I can’t tell you the last time we had a White Christmas.  I guess I could google it, but I’m busy today.

Ok, so curiosity got the better of me. I had to go and look and I found a whole lotta nothing.  I know that we’ve had ONE in the entire time that I’ve lived here, and I’ve lived in the area for a total of sixteen years of the last 20+ years. (Yes, I’ve moved to and from here 4 times.)

What I did find is that the chances of a White Christmas are slim to none around these parts… as in, a bunch of people who are math nerds who have nothing better to do all day sat around and looked at the historical data for the last 30 or so years and figured out the probablity of a white Christmas here in the ‘Noke.

Know what they said?

Exactly what I told you already.  White Christmas’s rarely happen in Southwest Virginia.

There is a 10 percent chance every 10 years of a White Christmas.

The funny thing?  There are Easter’s around here that it’s freakin’ cold.  Like last year?  Yeah.  It was FREEZING (like, no seriously, it was freezing) and we’ve had snow, big snows, in April.

No, I’m not kidding you.

But it’s going to be 49 Christmas day.

Explain this to me.

Please?

I think we’ve already determined that I don’t want to move.  Florida doesn’t have enough seasons for me and any further north is ENTIRELY too cold for me.

I got totally off track with this post.

I’m supposed to be telling you why I’m dreaming of a DRY Christmas.. and got totally thrown off by the thought of a White Christmas, which we’ve already covered, ain’t gonna happen.

So, yeah.

I’m sick and tired of this rain.  It’s been raining for DAYS.

DAYS I tell you and it’s supposed to stop briefly tomorrow (but still be cloudy), only to rain again on Sunday.  Caroling in the snow I can handle.  Caroling in the rain?

Um, no.

Not only that?  But it’s going to be in the 40s (high 40s tomorrow) and then drop to below freezing on Monday and then back up to the mid 40s on Tuesday and then Wednesday?

Come on…

Guess.

Yup.  Rain with a high of 50.

The 50 I can handle.

The rain?  I cannot.

And then Christmas Day of course, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 49… with guess what?

Rain at night.

I sure hope Santa brings his rain coat.

I’m also hoping that my gifts don’t get waterlogged.

And this is what I do when I’ve finished Christmas preparations more than a week early.

Remind me next year to wait until the last minute.

Until next time…

For some reason I always envisioned that your area would have a higher chance of snow than here in Texas. I guess it’s a stero typical thought since your sorta North East.
I haven’t checked the forecast for the week here. You never know, ya know?

Can you tell I’m getting a whole heck of a lot of nothing done today?

Girlfried I am SO with you! I am SICK of the rain and my children don’t even know what snow looks like!

When you said “dry Christmas,” I was thinking of liquor-free. That seemed like an odd thing to hope for.

I’m dreaming of a Christmas with temperatures above -45. And yes, that’s Fahrenheit. I’d probably take a little rain right now. Although I DO love the snow. And it’s been snowing all day long. So much so that a lot of people had to cancel their family gatherings and parties today because people are snowed in :) I hope it dries up for you.

Looks like we’ll be a bit warmer but have rain on Christmas day as well. Makes me feel a little grinchy :-(
