It’s tough. I have my laptop in the living room, so if Ladybug is playing, I’m on the computer. it’s hard to disconnect. once a week, hubby and i have movie night and that is mandatory no computer time. other than that, it’s always one. but my phone is just a phone. so if i’m away from the house, i’m away from a computer, so that’s good.

I stay connected/disconnected by staying away from all the extras…I have a laptop that I turn on in the morning, check email and a few of my favorite blogs, my bank account, and a couple of things like that, then I move on with my day. I don’t twitter, I just signed up with facebook, but I haven’t done ANYTHING with it yet. My cell phone is just a phone — not a smart phone, pda, texting machine. periodically during the day I check emails or blogs that weren’t updated that morning. I don’t even RSS feed my favorites…that way I’m not obligated to read it if I don’t have time. Then at night after That Other Kid goes to bed, once I take care of all the extra stuff I didn’t do I sit down and connect with my “blog friends” and check emails again. I’m a SAHM though so it’s probably easier for me to stay disconnected/connected than a “working” mom. Hope you find the right connections!

I was just thinking about this! I want more family and sleep time. I am trying to limit things during the week to just blogging and commenting and do all the other online stuff on the weekends.
This may all go out the window when I get an iPhone…I’m sure you’ll notice as I’ll probably overstay my welcome around here. LOL

oh i wish we were less connected. i used to be. no tv in the bedroom, just a regular cell phone with no bells and whistles and i only used my computer for school work. well then, i fell in love with and married a super techie and everything has changed. some for the better and some for the worse. at times i think we spend more time with our plugged in devices than we spend plugged into each other. …..i mean really, when did i start having panic attacks because i left my phone at home?! and when did most of the communication between me and the hubs come through email?!

i wish i had more to offer you than you’re not alone in your quest to find the balance……it’s hard but i do think it’s necessary and you’ll find there is a lot to gain from plugging into yourself and your family rather than your computer.

I have to have my time with the Lord first. The rest falls into place. But early morning when the house is quiet & before the kids come charging down the hall…oh, that is a sweet sweet time to meet with Him. My day is always always better when I give Him first dibs on my day. The rest just happens. Some gets done. Some does not. I haven’t fallen apart yet from not seeing the newest uploaded pics from my MS & HS friends on FB.

I have a laptop and a blackberry. I’m never fully disconnected. I haven’t gotten fully into twitter…blogging is about 2 a week now (which is more than I used to do)…as far as emails, well, I get them as they come in, but since I quit selling AVON, I don’t get nearly as many as I used to!
