So the last few weeks have been nothing but one thing after another and me wondering why I can’t catch a freaking break. Yes, I knew vacation was coming up but even that came with its own issues.
So, here we are. On vacation. And I had every intention of putting my swimsuit on and keeping it on for the whole week. Armed with sunscreen we were going to splash around in the water until we just couldn’t stand it anymore… or we got hungry.
A huge storm followed us but no big. It gave us time to actually unpack. The kids were so excited when we got here that they just threw everything on the ground and headed to the water.
Even Matthew, despite the fact that he was complaining that his throat hurt. Mother of the year that I am kinda shrugged it off figuring it was the massive amounts of loud singing that we did on the road. But later in the evening, he complained that it was getting worse. Again, mother of the year kicked in. I gave him some Tylenol and told him to man up. His throat did not look happy but I figured he had the same thing Sam had the week earlier — unhappy throat and a slight fever that would be gone in a day.
But when he woke up the following morning I could tell before I even looked at his throat.
Strep.
I’m an expert in this, ya know. My kids, particularly Matthew, are strep magnets.
I know, right?
Anywho, we got him some med, throat drops, motrin, and plopped him on the couch where he slept most of the day. I finally convinced him some sunshine would do him some good and got him to go out and sit.
By night he was feeling much better and today, he’s back to his old self. So he didn’t miss much of the fun.
But now?
The weather?
Yeah, not looking so great.
But you know what? I’ve told them all…this week is what we make of it.
And we’re going to make the best of it! Rain or shine.
Until next time…

Bummer way to start a vacation, but it sounds like you are doing what you do best….make the best of a bad situation! Hope the weather cooperates with you and Matthew continues to feel better! Enjoy your vacation…
