Let’s Talk About the Need for Weather Forecasts That Are Correct

I understand that if I truly want to know what the weather is, I need to open the window, or better yet, walk outside to see what it’s doing.  Having worked in broadcast television with numerous weather people over the years, I’ve asked why it isn’t always right and I get some mumbo jumbo about cold fronts, warm fronts, el nino, and whatever else might affect the weather and honestly?

Really not happy with that answer.

I also understand that for planning purposes, looking at the 10 day forecast is pointless because things can change in 10 days.

Ok.  I’m fine with that.

But when I look at 10pm at night and see a weather forecast that states it will be sunny and warm with afternoon showers (that show the showers starting around 3pm on the hourly forecast) I don’t expect it to be raining cats and dogs when I wake up at 8am.

Because I had plans for the time that it was supposed to be sunny.  And then I had plans for when the rain came.

Oh sure, you say, just reverse them.  Well, it’s not that easy.  It’s also not easy to appease children who were planning on one activity or cooped up with no television or internet.

And yes, I have internet now.  It’s spotty because it’s so cloudy.  It’s crapped out on me several times already in this short time that I’ve been blogging.  And when the internet is spotty I can’t harvest, plow or rearrange my farm on Farmtown for the 1,000th time.  (Yes, I am addicted and what’s worse?  I promised Matthew that on vacation we would get him started with a farm and so now we have two farms and limited internet connectivity meaning we have crops that might go to waste.)

Priorities, ya know?

Anywho, I just thought I would take a moment or two to vent about the weather and the lack of it being right.  Let’s get it close, please?

Pretty please?

With sugar on top?

My kids and I would appreciate it greatly!

Just goes to prove that meteorologist is the only profession that you can do your job wrong and not lose it!

Until next time…

I would go crazy thinking about my dying crops just waiting on me! Hang in there!

Too late now for a career change, but lately I’ve been thinking I should have been a weather forecaster. How else could I be wrong all the time and *still* employed?

Weather is one of those things that cause people havic all the time…it’s either too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet…why is the weather never “just right” for more than a day or two?? Hope the weather straightens out for you guys to enjoy the rest of your trip!
