Christmas Music on November 18th? Seriously?

in Heather's Quirks, Thoughts...

I was out running errands today and Christmas shopping (ok, so I really was just picking up some things that I saw that I knew were on their lists…) and as I’m in the store, I hear Christmas music.

Why does it appear that Christmas gets earlier and earlier every year?

To make matters worse?

I’m driving home from picking the kids up from school today and I see this in front of me…

A REAL Christmas tree?  Going up BEFORE Thanksgiving?

Am I the only one that feels ADAMANTLY that Christmas CANNOT start until the Turkey is carved and Thanksgiving is OVER with?

Please don’t get me wrong.  Our decorations are coming out next Thursday night and going up Friday morning.  The tree will come a week later.  And I will listen to Christmas music ALL THE TIME… but AFTER next Thursday…

Before you know it, Christmas will start in July.  And I’m just not prepared for that.

Please.  Someone.  Anyone.  Tell me I’m not alone in my thinking here.

Until next time…

You are definitely not alone. I refuse to listen to Christmas music before black friday. I did start shopping earlier this year but only because I am working more than usual right now and do not want to fight the crowds after Thanksgiving.

And to be truly honest, I don’t even really like the exchanging gifts part. I am a firm believer that Christmas is about Christ, God’s gift to us, and spending time with family. I would be perfectly content without a single gift sent my way. I do enjoy seeing the kids open gifts but we do teach them what Christmas is truly about. So I do understand where you are coming from.

i’m completely in agreement. no christmas until after thanksgiving. thanksgiving – giving thanks- is such a special holiday and an important thing to remember to do, i refuse to skip over it or rush it just to get to the next holiday. our world already seems to go at such a fast pace, i need all the opportunities i can get to slow down and enjoy the moment.

I’m with you. We will get the Christmas decorations out next Friday and decorate when we’re all home together on Sunday. Reminds me, I need to blog about our “Santa Claus alternative.” Right now, LB thinks that SC is a snowman. We will be calling him Saint Nicholas and teaching her the story of the real person behind that story. I only want to deal with the craziness of people asking if LB is ready for Santa Claus for a short time. More than a month of that drives me crazy!
