Someone needs to tell that to alot of the people that I came encounter with last night.
I had the bright idea that I would go to Toys R Us at midnight last night. There wasn’t a big ticket item per se that I was looking for, however, there were some good deals and waiting until midnight to go shopping was easier for me than getting up at 5am to go shopping. Besides, waiting in line in the morning, in the cold, just is not my cup of tea.
So, the boy’s mother, sister and I headed to Toys R Us. The line to get in was way too long and we contemplated leaving. But once they opened the doors, it moved quickly so we stayed.
We knew what each other was looking for, so we divided and would just meet up. It was a mad house. It was packed. You couldn’t move and I know that it was a fire hazard. I just couldn’t believe it. I’ve been shopping on Black Friday before but NEVER did I see it that packed.
Once we had everything we were looking for (only one thing on my list was sold out by the time I found it…) we attempted to find the end of the line. By this point in time it was a little after 1.
At 2:15, they finally did something about the line control. No one knew where the back of the line was, including those that worked in the store. People were just trying to merge which made some very unhappy. At one point in time there was a shouting match and while they asked her to leave, they allowed her to purchase her items first. I didn’t exactly agree with that. What was stopping any of us from doing that?
The three of us, obviously delerious by this point in time, because we hadn’t moved an inch in an hour, started singing Rudolph at the top of our lungs. I thought that perhaps the whole line would join in, kinda like starting the wave, but just the folks behind us did.
Oh well. By 2:30 we were in a line and started moving. It was at that point in time I learned that the police made the store close their doors until they got all of us out of there. Needless to say, the people who arrived at 2 were not happy that they had to wait in line. There was even one arrest.
At 3:45, we finally made it to the checkout line.
Yes, I realize that we’re crazy.
We were out of the parking lot but 4:15 and STARVING. Shopping makes you hungry. It was then that it dawned on me that I got up at 6:30 to go shopping that morning so I’d been up 22 hours and I’m not as young as I used to be.
We went for breakfast and then they dropped me off at 5:30 and I stashed the gifts in the hiding place at the boy’s house. I was WIRED.
WIRED I tell ya.
So I started cleaning his kitchen.
At 5:30 in the morning.
I did finally go to sleep at 7.
I slept for 2 hours.
So today should be interesting.
But, I had the chance to share Jesus with someone last night making it all worth it. I had the chance to be Christlike in a store full of tired, frustrated, angry people.
And that?
Makes it all worth it.
Until next time…
