Santa graced Thing 1 and Thing 3 with night vision goggles for Christmas so it’s not rare to have a Nerf Gun war in the dark now and so after church (and I’m pretty sure to delay bath time) they decided they were going to have a quick war.
It’s not a school night, so after church, I extended clean-up/bedtime by 30 minutes. They get to sleep in 30 more minutes so I was trying to be nice.
Thing 1 decided at the last minute that he wasn’t feeling up to a war and I saw the dissappointment in Thing 3′s face so I spun around and said, “Go get your guns, I’ll have a war with you.”
This brought about stares from the girls and the boy to which I asked, “what?” I didn’t think this was such a big deal, but the boy’s response?
“Oh man… this is going to be good.”
After a quick lesson in how to shoot the gun and how to work the goggles (and after bumping into a few walls because there is NO peripheral vision on these things) we were on our way upstairs to have a war. The war didn’t last long. We can only shoot 25 bullets at a time.
When we were both empty we turned the lights back on and I started picking up my darts. (We have rules around here… you don’t shoot an unarmed man, you never shoot Thing 4 (whether she has a gun or not) and if you shoot the darts, you pick them up. After they were all picked up and reloaded for the next person, I came down stairs to an alert on my phone.
Picking it up, I looked to see that I had been tagged in a picture on Facebook by Thing 1.

I wonder if this is the one they will submit with my “Mother of the Year” nomination?
Until next time…

Love it! So funny, you definitely got brownie points with your kids tonight!
And you said you lost your cool. Night vision AND nurf guns?? Very much cool in my book.
Wow. Yep, that one’s losing privileges for sure!
Be glad you haven’t had it before…or a worse photo. Forwarding text w/ pic now!
