The Children? Yeah… They Are Now “things”

Going forward, the kids are all going to be numbered.  The boy and I have too much trouble keeping track of them so, after watching the Cat in the Hat for the bajillionth time, we decided that this might be easier.

No.  I’m kidding.  It really started as a joke when one of the kids mentioned it.  And then?  It just kinda stuck.

But it gave me some new fodder for the blog so I wanted to explain it before I got too far deep into it and you all thought I was losing my mind.

Except you already know that I’ve lost my mind, right?

That’s what I thought.

So between the boy and I, we have…

Thing 1 — boy age 13.

Thing 2 — girl age 10.

Thing 3 — boy age 7.

Thing 4 — girl age 5.

Eventually, I will update my about me page to reflect this.  I hope it’s not too terribly confusing.  But giving the younger ones fake names?  I just couldn’t do it.

Shoot.  Let’s be real.  When I’m trying to get the attention of a child, I already run down the list of several names, including the dog, until I get the right one.

I have always used my children’s real names on my blog.  I’ve never seen anything wrong with it and honestly, I’m not changing how I refer to the kids because I’m scared or I feel uncomfortable about it.

I’m changing it because everything in my life has to be uniform.  I can’t call Matthew and Samara by their real names if I don’t call the boy’s kids by their real names and since I didn’t give birth to them….I’m a little more careful about protecting them.

And the boy really.

You see, my kids understand the blog… they embrace the blog… they LOVE the blog… and Facebook and know that I am very involved in the internet and have made many friends on said internet.

In fact, on Friday, Thing 2 and I met Heather from Not a DIY Life for lunch.  My kids have met other bloggy friends… like Soliloquy from She Just Had to Say It and Lisa B. from Simply His and Jo-Lynn from Musings of a Housewife….

They have met other virtual friends of mine as well along our travels and they don’t think that this is odd.

The boy and the younger two?  They don’t own a computer.  The boy has been burned by internet usage in the past.  I had to take the boy and my laptop to a place with WiFi so that I could show him my blog, in which he asked, “What’s a blog?”

The world of social networking, blogging, etc is a new territory for him and bless his heart, he does his best to follow along, and appear interested.

And yes, the boy has even met some of my virtual friends.

He’s not asked me to give them fake names.  He loves that I blog and encourages me to do so.  He’s my biggest cheer leader.

And I love him for that.

So there you have it…

Things 1 through 4.

And if you’re wondering?

The nicknames have stuck in real life.  It’s not uncommon for me to get a text that states, “I have things 2,3, and 4 with me, will you pick up thing 1?”

Even the kids love it.

Perhaps, I’ll work on getting t-shirts made for them.

Don’t you think that would be a GREAT Christmas card photo?

Until next time…

Ha ha…I call my boys that too…sometimes! Ours started when I had the twins…we started calling them thing 1 and thing 2…then it sort of progressed from there! I guess it was better than Peanut and Chunky Butt…LOL Having 4 kids and trying to keep the names straight…Impossible!! I call the wrong kid all the time. One day I was trying to correct one of them and called the oldest’s name…he was at school at the time! Pretty sad!
