Due To Lack Of Interest, Monday Has Been Cancelled

heh.

I say that every Monday morning.  It’s not that I have this thing against Mondays, but they aren’t what Saturdays are.  Or Friday nights.

Mondays are the day that I have to go back to the “real world” although this particular Monday?  My entrance into the real world is slightly delayed.  Because the kids are on a two hour delay.

So at 7:39am, instead of falling over in the chair to enjoy 30 minutes to myself before I head out for work, I’m sitting here, peacefully, writing, and looking out the window at the winter wonderland of white that’s not going to depart any time soon.

It snowed again this weekend.  For once, others north of us got more than we did and I feel for them.  Our totals neared 9 inches and put us at the 9th snowiest winter since 1912.  (Or 1918… I can’t remember.  I don’t think it matters.  When I look at records, I look at since I was born.  Which… I’m pretty sure this was the snowiest winter any of us in this family has ever encountered.  I could verify that for you, but it would require me to look it up again, and I’m just not that motivated.  It’s Monday.)

But we’re sitting at 38ish inches for the season.  Just 5 or 6 more will push us up to the 5th snowiest winter.

We’re to get 2-4 on Tuesday.

Just in case you’re wondering?  We need about 20 more to reach the top.

I wouldn’t rule it out.  Especially since my new found “crush” says that February will be cold and white.  I call him my crush because I spend alot of time on his blog here of late.

His name is Kevin.

He’s a copy editor at the local paper and a weather geek.  But his forecasts?

Puts the paid TV weather guys to shame.

So I’m slightly addicted to his blog.  (But I’m not the only one.)

But it’s not uncommon for the boy to say to me, “What’s your man say about the weather?” To which I will whip out my phone, go to the bookmarks and pull up Kevin’s blog to see if there’s an update.

Actually, most of the time, the boy doesn’t have to ask.  I already know when there’s an update and shared with him.

But back to Mondays.

I’m thrilled that the kids are on a delay.  It’s ten times better than a cancellation.  Last week, they were only in school on Thursday and after looking at the forecast on Friday, I was convinced that it would be Thursday of this week before they returned again.

The county is getting better with their road clearings, but then again, they’ve had lots of practice.  The boy was devastated that the roads were clear when he woke up yesterday.  Typically, a storm of any size means that it’s a hazzard out there for at least a week, but with each passing storm, we’re “snowed in” for shorter amounts of time.

There’s a possibility that we’ll be snowed in again this weekend, but it’s too soon to tell.

Personally, I say bring it on.

I like being snowed in on the weekends.  The first two, we had all the kids.  It was fun.  We played in the snow…. we played on the wii… we had a good time.

This past weekend?

The kids were gone.

The boy and I took a walk through the neighborhood Friday night.  (I don’t go out in the snow.  Period.  So that’s the last time that I’ll respond to “what do you want to do?” with a “Whatever you want to do.”)

But I had fun.  I was just cold.  And looked retarded.  And I know I looked retarded because the boy kept laughing every time he glanced in my direction.  I don’t care how I looked.  I was warm.  That’s all that matters.

Saturday, we went to the grocery store and I baked.  I made a caramel mocha cheesecake and a caramel apple pie.  And salmon for dinner.  And saturday night, my friend and her hubs came over for coffee and pie.  The boy said we were “grownups” but I can assure you… the hooting and hollering from around the table might not appear all grown-upish to the outside world.  Then we watched the DaVinci Code and Primal Fear.

For us to just sit and watch TV is a miracle.  We’re always running around.

Yes, the weekends are my time to decompress and when it snows, I get better decompression time making the re-entry to the week, to the real world, hard for me.

Harder than if it didn’t snow and I was running all over the place trying to get stuff done and fulfill my responsibilities.

But today is Monday.  While everything’s been pushed back two hours, it’s okay.  I’ve got a little more time to wake up and get moving before I start making sure the kids are getting ready for school.  We shuffled over here at 6:30 this morning and my kids promptly reported that they were going back to bed.

I shipped the boy off to work.

And I just enjoyed some time for me.

And that’s welcome whether it’s Monday or not.

Until next time…

Love it….OK not the snow part but hat the kids actually went to school! We were all grown-ups on Satuday around your table, after all, we aren’t DEAD! It was fun! Maybe you could call off that thing about being snowed in this coming weekend? n case you forgot, I am supposed to be flying out to go to Haiti! The worst part about the delay? I had to get up and schlep Noah to school for his bus to Burton ;(
