My cooking skills, or lack there of, have been showcased quite a bit here on my blog. My philosophy has always been, if I’m laughing, then I’m not crying.
There was my attempt at making home made spaghetti sauce….
I’ve caught the stove on fire, not once, but twice…. (and if I’m truly honest, I did it again the other night…)
And people like to make fun of my cooking… Thing 1, in his stand up debut, pretty much told the whole elementary school and their parents that I used the smoke detector as a timer… and Heather? Yeah… she guest posted once for me. The title? An ode to Heather’s cooking skills.
Let’s not forget our Resurrection Cookies… which are supposed to depict Jesus’ death, burial and rising from the tomb. The way ours turned out? He’s still in the tomb decomposing.
But that?
Was then….
And now?
Well, I’ll tell you how it is. I made a caramel mocha cheesecake the other night. And I mean a REAL cheesecake… like I the boy crushed the Oreos Kid-O’s and made the crust myself in a spring form pan… oh yes I did!
And so when I Tweeted about it, Wanda asked if I delivered leftovers.
So I said I would bring her some.
And I delivered on my promise. (Never mind that a complete stranger, known only through a service in which you can talk at 140 characters at a time on, offered to bring her not individually wrapped cheesecake…)
I took her the cheese cake.
And then some how?
My cheese cake was the talk of Twitter. (And by talk of I mean three people were talking about it… one of them was me!)
But I mean, come on! This is me! People we talking about my cooking on the internet in a GOOD way! They were complimenting me and not making fun of me.
See?
I have tasted cheesecake heaven and it is made by @heatherjacobson – sooooo yummy! Thanks sweetie!! You are an angel.
@JillElswick it was caramel cheesecake with chocolate crust #todiefor @heatherjacobson is a total sweetie and awesome cook!
@WCRSaenz I want one of those caramel cheesecakes with chocolate crust from @heatherjacobson. Wow!
No! I’m not paying them! (But I am taking Jill a piece next time…. but I have actually met her before!)
I laughed and said I might become the cheesecake Twit…
How’s that for branding?
Anywho, I have to admit, it made me smile.
I smiled more because the boy and Thing 1 RAVED about it, but still….
I was happy.
And on the lines of cooking, can I tell you something funny?
I make home made meals every night and do you know what the biggest request is?
Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes.
The first is frozen in a box, the latter in the form of flakes.
Sometimes, I wonder why I even bother. But every body is stoked when it’s Salisbury Steak night…. (it’s Friday in case you’re wondering!)
But it’s just funny. I have more cooking posts on my brain than any thing else now a days… and 18 months ago? I didn’t want to turn the oven on unless absolutely necessary.
I’m kinda proud of myself.
Ok, not kinda… I’m really proud of myself.
Who knew I had it in me?
Until next time…

When I first got married I seemed to have a tendency to melt things when I was cooking. I once melted a bag of beans (didn’t notice, picked it up, beans all over the floor). I once melted a wedding gift — a mini mincer — it was awesome. I only used it once. Despite not having done it in a few years it’s become one of those things my Dh won’t let me forget. He’s constantly shutting off things in the kitchen. Anyway, I felt like I could relate to your story.
yay! for you!
you should be proud of yourself. i’m proud of you too! i’ll write a whole blog post in your favor if you give me a piece of cheesecake
Yay for you, Heather! OK. It’s only 7:30 AM, and I am totally craving cheesecake. Thanks, a lot! LOL
