They Didn’t Listen So Neither Did I…

Knowing my disdain for Valentines Day, yet wanting to fulfill the obligation that he thinks he must (I joke. I know he LOVES to do this stuff and he WANTS to) the boy pulled out the mushy pinks and reds around 9:30 on February 13th. It was my non-valentines day present. (Pictures to follow)

And because I love him and want him to know that…and because he seems to enjoy this holiday, I spoke to him using his love language.

Gifts.

Which coincidentally is the love language of thing 2 and 4. But I can’t give 2 and 4 a gift and just tell 1 and 3 I love them (theirs is words of affirmation) so I got them all something.

And tomorrow morning, the boy, who thinks I gave him his present today too will see his new Wii game (that he’s wanted since before we had a wii) and continually say “we can’t afford this,” “you didn’t have to,” etc, all of which are somewhat true. But on the inside?

He’ll be wondering how fast I’m going to get breakfast on the table so he knows how much time he’ll have to play before church.

The reality of it is, I still don’t like this holiday. But, this holiday is loved by the boy. And because of that, I will celebrate and attempt to be in the spirit.

Jesus gave me (and the rest of us should we be willing to accept it) the greatest gift of all.

I can’t give that to the boy, or the kids, or anyone else. But I can love them using their language so they know beyond a shadow of a doubt how my heart swells for them.
Hallmark holiday or not.

ROFL! Because, Duck came home with a dozen red roses after work Friday. He so doesn’t listen :D But I played along, because you’re right — for some reason they like this holiday. Even if I don’t, I affirmed him (words) and spent quality time (both our love languages) with him.

Oh yeah, love the detangler bottle in the background on the table — yes I know the bottle well! :D

so sweet. i’m proud of you for trying to enjoy the day and make it special for the boy and the things even if it’s not your thing. you chose to love them in ways that were meaningful to them and i am sure it meant even more to because of that.

First of all, I LOVE the thesis theme. I feel like a geek saying that, but its true. Next, even though VDay isn’t your thing, it was nice of you to play along. =)
