I Hope You’re Not Dissappointed (House Pics!!!)

in Mom Stuff,No Way...,Pics,the boy,Time wasting...,Yo!

I have pictures of our house.

And alot of narrative.  So grab a beverage and we’ll get this show on the road.

(For the record, I was going to do a video, but I can’t find the Flip.  So you get pictures.)

I hope that’s okay.

I already showed you the back of the house.  That was an addition, obviously.  We ripped the old porch off and put the addition and the deck on.  The room is actually our dining room.. because the kitchen?  An eat in.  And there are 6 of us.

It wasn’t really conducive to a large family.

(Oh and please keep in mind, there is minimal decorating in all of these pictures… the only boxes that are left are the wall stuff.  And I’m just not sure where to put all of it yet.  Oh… and there are minimal curtains.  Because, again, I’m not sure what to do about that.  Don’t hold your breath about getting new pictures soon.  I was in my house for 6 years and never hung curtains… because I didn’t know what to put up. )

So here we go…

The dining room…

100_8944

There are 8 windows and a door… oh and we drywalled it… i watch Bob Vila do it and then told the men how to… none of us really knew what we were doing, but… it looks pretty good! I LOVE it!  And a sky light.  And a door that leads to the deck…

So we’ll move into the kitchen… And I was going to do before and after pictures, but I’m tired.  And I’d rather just show you the new house…

Now, if you follow me on Facebook, I referred to “stripping” quite a bit in November and December.  I was referring to these upper cabinets.  I did that.  I stripped them and sanded them and re polyuerothened them.  Yes, I did.  And if I never refinish another piece of wood in my life, it will be too soon.  The bottom cabinets were custom made so that we could put a dishwasher in.

The sink?  Oh I LOVE my sink.  It’s called a low divide and my thirteen year old son pointed it out to us.  Now I can wash the WHOLE cookie sheet in the sink and still have two sides to the sink.

I’ll also point out now, that unless I didn’t have a choice, there is nothing WHITE in this house.  I don’t like white.  The fridge?  It was new.  So we didn’t get a new one of those.  But I’m looking for a black face plate.

100_8951

The cabinet door is open because we need latches.  Yes, we need to make a punch list.  There are a bunch of little things.  Eventually, we’ll have a pass through shelf in that window and it will be framed in a little nicer.  Wasn’t a necessity to move in.  Neither were the latches.

100_8952

That bakers rack is going as soon as we build the island and the passthrough is built.  But for now?  We need it.  And you see that bread maker?  It, along with a box of tupperware (not shown) are the only things that don’t have homes.  Once the island is built, they will.

Ok, so moving on….

How about the marital suite?

Would you like to see that….well if you’re looking at the above picture, you’ll just turn to your right, and walk down the hall…

oh, but wait!

we’ll come to the bathroom first…

it was pink and blue….and now?

100_8953

Ignore the missing paint around the border… That was painted (it’s a light green… celery is what they called it…) but when the guy came to PAINT THE TILE his tape pulled it off… so I have to fix that… but now I’m thinking I might want a very narrow border there… and the cabinet above the potty? Totally scored that on clearance at Kmart.  And the faucet?  The hubs picked that out.  He’s just tickled with it.

100_8954

Gosh… that’s so much better!

Now back out of the bathroom (because there isn’t much room to turn around…lol) and go right and you’ll run into our room…

excuse my bra on the bed… I haven’t yet put the laundry away tonight….

100_8956

100_8955

My vanity…, i need some more pictures…

100_8957

And the bed from the set that was bought in 1942…we went from a queen to a full… but that’s another post for another time… (did they make queen beds in the 40s?) I don’t think a queen would even fit… we took the smallest room in the house… so that the kids could have all the space that they could…

When you come out of our room, if you turn left, you can go into Thing 3′s room (he’s 7) or the living room…

Let’s check out Thing 3′s room first…

100_8960

100_8959

This bedroom set?  Used to be the childhood furniture of an ex-boyfriend.  They gave it to me for the kids.  Then Thing 2 used it for a long time and now?  Thing 3 has it… and HE LOVES IT!!!!!

100_8958

When you come out of Thing 3′s room and do a U Turn you’ll be in the living room… we didn’t do much to this room other than fill in cracks and paint… which is what we did in all the bed rooms… oh and the floors were redone… the bulk of the work was done in the kitchen, the addition, and thing 1′s room… that’s probably the biggest transition.

ok, so the living room…

100_8961

the couch and chair were already here.  Please note the big rabbit ears.  They were already here too.  And with those we get enough channels (thanks to the converter box that was already here as well) that we’ve opted not to get even the basic $15 a month cable package.  Yes, we’re just like that.  No real internet (just an air card from the cell company and rabbit ears…)  the coffee table is a hope chest.  We didn’t know where else to put it.  It was in our room at the other house.  It houses all the movies and the wii accessories.  And the little archway there goes to the front door.  It looks like a castle door.  But no one ever comes in that way.  So that’s where the boxes of pictures and books are.  Temporarily.

100_8962

That door back there?  No one ever uses it either.  But it leads to what I call the “old people porch”… in that there’s one of those old gliders out there.  And it just looks like a porch that old people would sit on.  It will also serve useful as I’m waiting for children to come home… ones who may be pushing curfew… because that’s where you pull into the driveway… but we have some time to worry about that…

The rug?  Also already here.  It matched.  and I’m working on getting slip covers for the couch and chair.

100_8963

The mantle needs some decorating.  I’m just not sure what yet.  And Jesus?   He’s moving.  Not out of the house just not there.  He was on the wall in the previous picture but it wasn’t working for me.  He’s not working there for me either.  But he’s staying put until I find Him another home.  The picture also came with the house and I like it… just when we find the right spot for him.

And that’s my desk back there.  And yes, I need to find another horizontal picture.  The fact that one doesn’t match is driving me buggy.

and one more for the road…

100_8964

come out of the living room and you’ll find yourself at a door that leads up to the girls’ rooms… thing 4 has named her room the princess tower…

100_8966

it’s pink.  It’s actually 2 shades of pink, but you really can’t tell…

100_8968

I was determined to make that dresser work despite the walls that are arched.  or what ever you call it.  My friend cindy suggested that and I love it… and the best part about it?

100_8969

The stuffies have their own “room”….

And while she LOVES that… her favorite part of her new room?

100_8967

Her new princess lamp…which we bought solely to make her want to stay upstairs by herself when Thing 2 wasn’t here…

It worked.  That child LOVES her princess tower…

And to get to Thing 2′s room… well it’s right through here…

100_8965

the doorway with the castle on it… we haven’t named thing 2′s room… and it’s not unpacked.  She asked that we not… and that she would do it when she got home… but to show you the colors?

100_8971

I didn’t like them at first, but I can’t wait to see what she does with it when she gets home…

Back down the stairs…

100_8972

and back through the kitchen and to the basement…. down to thing 1′s room…

100_8945

Not so much on the outside…

100_8947

but pretty cool on the inside… he’s not done unpacking… never mind that i’ve unpacked the whole house and he’s not done with just his room… i might have mentioned that to him… he’s 13.  i don’t think he cares.  I have threatened that I will come down and do it myself… i’m not sure he would care if I did.

100_8948

Yes, he has a sink in his room.  He’ll also have a light and a medicine cabinet when the hub’s finishes.  The pipe was already there and the sink came out of the old bathroom.  He wanted it.. he got it.. but we only have one bathroom… so i think it will help… (we’re building another one down in the basement, but again, not essential to move in.)

So that’s the house… i thought i might show you my little laundry area…

100_8949

The clothes on the left are now clean and the ones on the right need to be ironed.

and the view from our deck?

100_8939

our property actually goes through those woods and then there’s a big field behind it… that’s where the hubs wants to build a baseball field… complete with lights and bleachers

and to the right, for 800 feet or so… runs the Blue Ridge Parkway… there’s a marker in the woods that shows us what is federal land and what is ours… i told the kids that if there were going to be stupid and do something illegal, that they should make sure that they are on our side of the wire…lol

100_8940

100_8942

100_8941

So that’s it… our new house…

there’s just this one place that I’ll give you a before…. and you’ll have to wait for the later…

100_8946

THAT mess is all the decorations, clothes that they need to grow into, winter stuff and storage… and it needs to be organized and stored… because that little area (which is actually a garage, but since it was built for a beetle, our cars don’t fit) it’s going to be the kids’ playroom…

Thanks for looking… i’m mightly proud of all the hard work that was put into it… and so glad that we’re finally here… in our home…

until next time…
